.:Jackalope:.
Jackalope were (and still are) the main inhabitants of Aeris and they were here long before humans ever came to the Island. Jackalope are about three feet high from head to toe (excluding antlers) and they are widely known for being the only member of the Leporidae family with horns. The females have slightly smaller antlers than the males, and baby Jackalope (which are called kits) are born without their horns but they are usually fully grown by their second year. Young jackalope (still in their first year) are called leverets.
The male jackalope are widely known for being fighters as they often compete for the females attention during spring fighting partly like a stag, but mostly like a hare. Some of the more serious fights can be to the death, though on most occasions the worst thing a looser can expect is a fractured bone or two.
Unlike rabbits Jackalope are omnivorous, and will eat fish and meat. They will even snack on birds eggs given half a chance! Jackalope have canine teeth and unlike their front teeth, they do not have to be worn down, rather if they lose a tooth another one will grow back in it's place in a few days.
While many other species of animal inhabit the island, Jackalope are considered the main species of Aeris. Not only because of their numbers, but because of the fact that they are sentient. They are even capable of human speech! Generally, they are proud creatures and they don't like to associate with humans.
There are some Jackalope that look much similar to their wild cousins. These creatures are often called 'feral' and in the past they were frowned upon by most of society due to their colouration. It's not entirely superficial though, those jackalope used to have reputation for being uncivilised and dangerous and while this often isn't the case some of these feral creatures do prefer a more solitary existence. Most jackalope today don't have much of a problem with these feral creatures. However, there is the odd one which retains the prejudice.

Jackalopes live in Burrows, through they're very much different from the burrows that rabbits of hares reside in. Burrows are semi-circles raised out of the ground, often with a large door or covered with grass/sand/snow so they blend in with their environment. Burrows can often be much large than they appear because they can spread far underground. Breeding setts are very similar but they are conical in shape. The space underground a burrow or set is called a warren.

Humans and the Jackalopes
Humans visited the island and decided to settle here, long after the jackalope made this their home. In fact the jackalope seemed to have evolved here. At first, both species were exceptionally wary of each other and both species seemed to teeter on the brink of war for a moment or two. Neither species wanted a fight, the jackalope were far faster than the humans and if they managed to surprise a human it was obvious they'd be able to do a lot of damage. However, the humans were armed to the teeth and far larger than the jackalope. If they were to fight, it would end in a lot of bloodshed possibly without even establishing a clear winner.
They seemed to have acclimatized to each other now, some jackalope and humans even going so far as to call each other 'friends'. There's still a distinct amount of tension between the species as a whole, especially after reports came of a few jackalope getting caught in hunter's traps originally made for deer. The jackalope also have a bone to pick with the humans about their dogs, a decent sized canine can easily be a threat to jackalope, especially if they've got kits. The population of Greystone is growing, and soon, if their territory keeps expanding it will be encroaching upon the homes of jackalope and aures.

Wild Jackalope
There are currently five kinds of feral jackalope that you can encounter through being active on The Burrows;
Some of them are harder to acquire than others, but none of them are awfully illusive. Your best bet is to have alot of active roleplays, and if they you don't tell me specifically not to jump in then you might just end up with a new jackalope to drag back to your burrow. There's also a small group of poachers that try to catch and sell these poor creatures for profit! If you're looking to get one quickly, you might want to check out their business. It resides down a little alleyway just off the high street. ... But if anyone asks, you didn't hear that from me.
